In May 2026, OneEnergy hosted our first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) open house
on Whidbey Island in Washington’s Puget Sound. It was wonderful to gather interested locals
and hear both messages of support as well as important feedback. We learned that Whidbey
Island has robust sustainability programs in place, including multiple innovative clean energy
projects. We also learned from community members that the region suffers from frequent multi-
day grid outages during winter storms, which cause significant problems for residents and
businesses alike. As OneEnergy works to deploy ever-evolving BESS technologies, we are
excited to be working alongside civically engaged communities like Whidbey Island to do so
responsibly and effectively.
