OneEnergy’s Butter Solar Portfolio Named Renewable Energy Project of the Year
MADISON, Wis., January 16, 2020 – OneEnergy Renewables’ Butter Solar portfolio has been awarded RENEW Wisconsin’s 2019 Renewable Energy Project of the Year at today’s ninth annual 2020 Renewable Energy Summit in Madison, Wisconsin.
OneEnergy Renewables developed the Butter Solar portfolio, an innovative solar energy partnership that played a significant role in Organic Valley and Dr. Bronner’s journey to becoming 100 percent renewably powered.
The Butter Solar portfolio is a 32 megawatt suite of 10 solar projects in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. The portfolio began producing clean, renewable energy during the summer of 2019 and is owned and operated by BluEarth Renewables.
“We are thrilled for our many partners who showed the vision and leadership to bring the Butter Solar project to fruition, including Organic Valley, Dr. Bronner’s, Upper Midwest Municipal Energy Group, the City of Madison, and Native Energy,” said Eric Udelhofen, OneEnergy’s director of development for the portfolio. “They all shared a common vision of seeing rural customers throughout the Midwest enjoy the benefits of sustainable, cost-competitive solar energy, and took a chance with us to develop a new model of solar portfolio. RENEW Wisconsin is a respected voice in renewable energy advocacy, which makes this recognition all the more meaningful.”
The Upper Midwest Municipal Energy Group, which represents several utilities in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, will purchase the power from the portfolio. Organic Valley, the City of Madison, Dr. Bronner’s and Native Energy will buy renewable energy credits from the projects under long-term contracts, which will help keep electricity prices low for the rural communities in which they are located.
